A Night to Last a Movement

On October 12th, hundreds of organizers, community members, formerly incarcerated people, and supporters of our movement gathered for an incredible night to celebrate 45 years of LSPC! It was unforgettable: we heard tributes from advocates such as abolitionist Angela Davis and Alameda County DA Pamela Price, looked back at the successes we've had since 1978, and honored our trailblazers Dorsey Nunn and Hamdiya Cooks-Abdullah.

We thank everyone who joined us for such a special occasion. There's no doubt that this event is our catalyst to end mass incarceration for the years to come. If you'd like to view photos and videos from the 45th Gala, you can click here.

Press Conference on New CDCR Regulations

In California's prisons, incarcerated individuals perform essential labor—fighting fires, constructing, engineering, and manufacturing—but receive a shockingly low wage, a mere $0.08 cents per hour. But on October 6, CDCR dared to make an announcement: a supposed "wage increase" to $0.16 cents per hour. This week, LSPC and the One Fair Wage Coalition will be hosting a Press Conference to push for fair pay and the chance for incarcerated workers to rebuild their lives. We call on you to join!

Date: Thursday, November 16
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: On Zoom, at bit.ly/LWFA2311

To be Free is to Relax!

The women of LSPC and other women from across the United States came together for the Free Her Conference. From October 13th to 15th, women, almost all who were formerly incarcerated, took the time to rest and relax in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We left our impact with two workshops: one on healing with pregnancy in prison, led by former LSPC Staffer Harriette Davis; and our 23' Policy Fellow Barbara Chavez led a training on the separation of children and reunification. We are grateful for such an opportunity, and we are coming back feeling reinvigorated!

Messages for the Movement

"I don’t know how to save the world. I don’t have the answers or The Answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. I only know that without compassion and respect for all of Earth’s inhabitants, none of us will survive—nor will we deserve to."  - Leonard Peltier

Leonard Peltier has been incarcerated since 1977 and is one of the United State's longest-held political prisoners. Peltier is Native American and was an active member of the American Indian Movement. To learn more, visit here.
