On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers brought news to the enslaved African Americans of the Confederacy that they were free. Now in a future of emancipation, former slaves were jubilant, feasting and praying in celebration of their liberation. As we reflect on the legacies of slavery, emancipation, and how slavery transformed into modern-day indentured servitude. We are grateful to our comrades at All of Us or None for joining the community and learning together the relationship between hyper criminalization of Brown and Black communities and slavery.
