Quest for Democracy

Over the course of the last 10 years, Legal Services for Prisoners with Children/All of Us or None has organized Quest for Democracy to provide hundreds of directly and system-impacted people from dozens of diverse organizations the opportunity to advocate as experts about the devastating realities of the criminal justice system.

By facilitating this direct access to our elected representatives, we’re able to use our real-life expertise to draw attention to our humanity, while supporting legislation that helps our families and communities to lead comfortable, healthy lives.

We invite you to join us at our State Capitol in order to speak in your own voice, and voice concerns you may have for your communities to State Legislators. With everyone’s participation, our collective voice and call to action will undoubtedly make this the biggest and loudest Quest for Democracy ever!

We will have robust discussions, live entertainment, and a digital megaphone to amplify our voices.

Thank you for supporting SB 474 by Senator Becker - the BASIC(s) Act (Basic, Affordable Supplies for Incarcerated Californians) - which would eliminate markups for canteen items. This bill will be heard next in the Senate Appropriations Committee, and we need all the support we can get to make sure we pass Appropriations without amendments!

The Communications Associate will be responsible for assisting the Communications Manager in all aspects of our comms duties, including work related to the website, electronic and print newsletter, social media presence, informational materials, media and public relations. The Comms Associate will plan and create narrative work (interviews, articles, graphics) to center formerly and currently incarcerated people and family members in our campaigns and outreach.
 
Salary Range: $65,000-70,000

Every year, we organize a large-scale statewide rally day at the California State Capitol with legislative advocacy visits led by formerly incarcerated people and families with incarcerated loved ones. The day also provides an opportunity for all other people of good will to come out and support formerly incarcerated people in our fight for inclusion, and our determination to speak in our own voice.

All people and family members directly impacted by the criminal justice system are invited to join All of Us or None at our monthly meeting the 3rd Thursday of each month online or in Oakland, CA. We discuss local and state legislation, plan community events, and strategize how to advocate for our community in our own voices.
